"You haven't given your kids a chance to be bored!" My mom's assessment of our summer schedule reflects my own feelings, but I don't think my children would agree. No one wants the school schedule back, but they could handle a little excitement, and even some learning. The summer chaos has already doubled my work load in the kitchen and the laundry room. Planning great activities is tough. Can you relate? If so, I have the perfect solution for you today.
They sent us a sample box from the Science Club to try out. One of the first things we noticed when we opened the box was the variety of activities included. I really appreciated that all the needed containers and pieces were already in the box.
One of Steve's representives contacted me recently and asked if I would be interested in promoting their products. I immediately said, "Yes!" Steve Spangler Science is a great source for science materials. One of the things I most appreciate is their belief that science properly done is FUN!

Each kit comes with a work book for the child, and one for the adult. That tells a little more about the projects. There are several projects, so you could do one each day for a week or, one each weekend for a month.
Your child can great some great practice reading non-fiction content and writing as they follow the directions and record their observations, but their attention will be on the fun science and engineering challenges.
Each month the science box has a different theme. We received the insta-snow kit. To be honest, I wasn't excited about something that I knew could get messy. Ever clean a diaper out of the washing machine? It's the same idea.
(By the way, if you do order the insta-snow be sure to dispose of it properly as it won't break down on its own.)
My kids, on the other hand were enthusiastic. The instructions encouraged experimentation, and I was really pleased to see how engaged my children became. They spent most of an hour just perfecting their technique of manufacture. In fact, my son said that the way that it erupted was his favorite part. Since it held their attention for so long, I decided I could deal with cleaning up the mess.
My older daughter said her favorite part was, " That when you squeeze it seems so slimy, but when you open your hand it seems so fluffy." My toddler really enjoyed the sensory experience as well.
Our favorite project was making the colored a sand-art style art.
We saved our projects, and observed how the dyes changed over time.
The Steve Spangler Science Club gives you a low to no-prep solution to your children's boredom. You might even be able to create some boredom for yourself while they're immersed in their discoveries.
